The short version: what is on your screen stays on your Mac, and this website doesn’t track you.
The app
- Copyable reads text with Apple’s Vision framework, which is part of macOS. Recognition happens on your Mac.
- Copyable makes no network requests at all: no update check, no analytics, no crash reports and no account.
- Translation (macOS 15 and later) uses Apple’s on-device translation. The first time you translate between two languages, macOS may ask to download them; that download is made by macOS, from Apple.
Screen Recording
macOS doesn’t let an app see other windows unless you allow it under Screen Recording. Copyable needs this to read the area you select. Here is what it does with it:
- It looks at the screen only when you start a capture with the shortcut or from the menu bar.
- It reads only the area you select. The image is used to recognize the text and is then thrown away; it is never saved to disk or sent anywhere.
- On macOS 15 and later, macOS reminds you every month that Copyable can see your screen and asks whether to keep allowing it. You can switch it off at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Video that an app protects from capture, such as Netflix or Apple TV, appears black to every screen capture, Copyable included.
History
Copyable keeps your recent captures in its menu bar menu so you can paste them again. The history keeps text only, never images, stays on your Mac, and can be turned off in Settings.
Purchases
Copyable is sold through Paddle.com, our online reseller and Merchant of Record.
- Paddle processes your payment and your personal details, such as your name, email address, card details and address or country, under Paddle’s privacy policy.
- We receive and store only what’s needed to deliver your download: the Paddle transaction ID, the Paddle customer ID, the amount, the currency, the time of purchase and the number of times the download link has been used.
- The payment form (Paddle.js, loaded from cdn.paddle.com and buy.paddle.com) loads only on the buy page, when you open it.
For questions about an order, go to paddle.net.
Ads in ChatGPT
We advertise Copyable in ChatGPT. When you click one of our ads, OpenAI adds a reference to the address of the page you land on (oppref=…).
- This site doesn’t store the reference in your browser. It only adds it to the site’s own links, so it reaches the buy page.
- If you buy, the buy page passes the reference to Paddle with your order. Our server then reports the purchase to OpenAI: the reference, the Paddle transaction ID, the time, the amount and the currency. We don’t send your name, email address, IP address or browser details.
- Purchases made without an ad click are reported the same way, without a reference. OpenAI uses these reports to measure our ads and decide where to show them, under OpenAI’s privacy policy.
This website
- No analytics, no tracking scripts and no ad pixels. The only ad measurement is the purchase report described above, sent by our server.
- This site sets no cookies. The payment form on the buy page is run by Paddle under its own privacy policy.
- No third-party scripts, fonts or embeds, except the Paddle payment form on the buy page. Everything on every other page, including the pictures, is served from this site.
- Like any web server, the server that hosts this site may keep standard request logs, such as IP address, browser and the page requested.
