How to copy text from Figma on Mac
When you can select a text layer in Figma, double-click it and copy as usual. For text you can’t select, such as text in images placed in the file, in prototype view or in a presentation, press ⌘ ⇧ 2 and drag over it: Copyable copies it the moment you let go.
How to do it with Copyable
Zoom to the text
Zoom the canvas to 100% or more so the text is drawn large and sharp.
Press ⌘ ⇧ 2 and drag over the text
Select the label, the paragraph or the whole frame. Only that area is read.
Paste it
The text is in your clipboard the moment you let go, and the panel next to your selection shows it. Paste it into a ticket, a translation sheet or your code.
Without Copyable
The free ways, and where they stop working. If one of them covers what you need, you don’t need an app.
Select the text layer
If your access lets you select layers, double-click a text layer and copy it.
Where it stops: Not for text inside images, or in prototype view.
Tips for design files
- Screenshots pasted into Figma as references are images. Their text can only be captured from the screen.
- A spec table in a design, such as spacing or colors, can go to a spreadsheet as cells with Table mode.
- Mockups in other languages: on macOS 15 and later, switch to Translate to check what the copy says.
Questions
Does it work in Figma’s desktop app and in the browser?
Yes, both. Copyable reads the screen, not the file.
Does it work with FigJam, Sketch or Adobe XD?
Yes. Any text you can see on screen can be captured.
Does it read text in a prototype?
Yes. A prototype in presentation view is on screen like anything else.
